Return to the Maze (a Labyrinth fanfic) chapter 10

       There was a burst of color, as the bubble popped. Suddenly, Jackie found herself in a room exactly like the one she was in now. She heard Jareth softly singing.

Now you turned my world, you precious thing,
You starve and near exhaust me,
Everything I've done I've done for you,
I move the stars for no one,

You've run so long
You've run so far

Your eyes can be so cruel
Just as I can be so cruel
Thought I believe in you
Yes, I do

Live without the sunlight
Love without your heartbeat
I, I can't live within you
I can't live within you

Jareth sighed

I....can't...... live.... within... you.....
Jackie gasped. He had such a lovely voice. The whole time he had been singing, Sarah had been running up and down the stairs, trying to get a baby in a red and white striped outfit. Uncle Toby! Over in the corner, Jareth was resting his head against a doorway, staring at Sarah. Tears leaked from his eyes. Sarah was up on a ledge, preparing to jump to get Toby. He was on the ledge beneath her. She jumped, and the room fell apart. Pieces of it floated down around Sarah and Jareth. They were now standing on a large slab of marble, floating in mid-air.
"Sarah, be careful. Up until now I have been generous," Jareth said.
"Generous? What have you done that was generous?" Sarah replied.
"Everything!" Jareth snapped. "Everything you wanted I have done. You asked that the child be taken, and I took him. You cowered before me, and I was frightened. I have reordered time, I have turned the world upside down, and I have done it all for you. I am exhausted from living up to your expectations. Isn't that generous?"
"Through dangers untold, and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to the castle beyond the Goblin City. My will is as strong as yours, and my kingdom"
"Stop," Jareth commanded. "Wait. Look Sarah. Look what I'm offering."
Jareth produced one of his crystals.
"Your dreams," he continued.
"My kingdom is great," Sarah recited.
"I ask for so little. Just let me rule you, and you can have everything that you want."
"My kingdom is great, damn, I can never remember that last line. "
"Just fear me, love me, do as I say,  and I will be your slave."
"My kingdom is great," Sarah whispered, turning to look at him. " You have no power over me." With those words, Jareth fell backward. He tumbled over the marble.
"No!" Jackie screamed. She reached out to grab him, but she felt her self being held back. There was a bright flash of color, and Jackie fainted.
